Abraxas · 26-30, M
My favorite artist is Edmund Blaire Leighton. I like his depictions of chivalry. He truly makes me yearn for a time period over a thousand years ago

@Abraxas he really celebrated the noble ideals in his work. I love his use of light.

@EldritchFox She’s very talented. 😃
EldritchFox · 41-45, F
@bijouxbroussard Yes she was extremely talented. She did all kinds of art from painting on race cars to ceramics to cartooning to her beautiful acrylic and oil paintings. Smart lady too.
@EldritchFox that’s awesome. ❤
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@FreddieUK oh I do love Magritte.
SnickersDOM · M

Picklebobble2 · 61-69, M

@Picklebobble2 I also love Matisse.
@Picklebobble2 Fauvist later in his life, he really did experiment. Thanks
Joshua Davis - Digital Artist. He heavily influenced my coding work at art school and even now.

@0uijaFinger I was reading that he makes the world using code only. That’s absolutely fascinating! Do you create much?
@InterdimensionalSideEye I havent like this in forever. I just draw like this now
@0uijaFinger you should post them.
1234cardiff · 61-69, M
@1234cardiff sounds like a hoot.
Adroneandastrain · 46-50, M
@Adroneandastrain the Dutch master’s paintings give me a lady boner😆
Adroneandastrain · 46-50, M
@InterdimensionalSideEye Yep, they were that good!! ....;)
@Adroneandastrain I stood in front of the Nights Watch in Amsterdam and I was blown away.
Pianoman · 31-35, M
There are so many artists from different schools of painting that I admire, but if I had to choose one then it would be Edvard Munch. I adore The Expressionists, and The Scream in particular seems to encapsulate the entire human condition - the agonies and exasperations of living.
@Pianoman you know there were many screams?
Pianoman · 31-35, M
@InterdimensionalSideEye Yes, apperently there were several. What condition they are all in now, Heaven knows! The amount of times they've been stolen. I can relate to that Scandinavian angst/melancholy.
@Pianoman me too. I love Munch. I find his emotional approach to death intriguing
ElwoodBlues · M
For 2D I really love Monet's Water Lillies and other paintings from his garden. I think for me they edge out Van Gogh.
For 3D, Bernini.

@ElwoodBlues those Italian marble sculptures are out of this world. Really amazing stuff.
Floki · M

@Floki sure
OogieBoogie · F
@OogieBoogie sigh. I feel you about a favourite. Beautiful pics, thanks, I like Impressionism too.
@OogieBoogie beautiful
WandererTony · 56-60, M
I like tribal art.
Styles that have come down through generations.
Themes that are slightly influenced by the modern world.

@WandererTony what kind of tribal art?
WandererTony · 56-60, M
@InterdimensionalSideEye Indian tribal
Like the wall paintings by santhals, bhils, gonds. The clothwork, kanthastitches, dye prints, the metal casts like dokra. Mainly from eastern india, where the colors are richer and style distinct.

@peterlee yeah he was very inspiring, a frien of mine copied one of his paintings, it came out great.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Too many to choose from. Biggest single influence on my own work is probably Virgil Finlay, but so many other, too.
@ChipmunkErnie sorry I missed this, I forgot about him!! Thank you for reminding me, I live live live sci-fi pulp also. Could I see some of your work?
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@InterdimensionalSideEye If you don't mind the nudity, there's some photos of me and my work in the old studio in my album.

@FreestyleArt that’s very cool. It’s so much work to animate no?
FreestyleArt · 36-40, M
@InterdimensionalSideEye yes it takes a lot of work. It lasted ,e 5 days or a week to finish it.

I'm unable to choose favorites in subjective areas like art, architecture, music and food because I like too much variety, so I like pretty much most early and mid-20th century non-objective / abstract and Surrealist painters and mid-to-late 19th-century proto-abstraction painters, including things like Impressionism, Pointilism, Fauvism, De Stijl, Suprematism, Bauhaus, Abstract Expressionism, Italian Futurism, Cubism, Tachisme, Op Art (e.g., Bridget Riley), and odds and ends like Gerhard Richter
that's what I created this group for, which still has a few example posts I have not yet deleted and/or have consolidated:

why? representational painting is just kind of boring to me, and seems totally unnecessary after the invention of the camera, as though the camera liberated painting to become something more interesting (but of course you can do abstraction with a camera too)
