A note about da Vinci...

I hadn't given it any thought about it before watching a Waldemar Januszczuk documentary yesterday, but he points out -- and shows many examples to prove the point -- that the famous "mystery" smile of the MONA LISA is not so much of a mystery related to Lisa Gerhardini, the model, as a trope that Leonardo gives to almost every woman he ever drew or painted. I guess he just found it attractive?

It's a beautiful way to include mystery, love, tenderness, compassion, surprise, softness, and a pinch of darkness in them, the way he's drawing their smiles..
