Sometimes I'll Just Be Listening to a Song...
& I'll find myself close to tears. It's not that the song'd be very emotional, or necessarily even that good, but sometimes I'll be listening & the beauty of listening to the music'll make me a bit watery. It's not that I'd feel emotional in the way I would in a well-executed romantic film. It's a less powerful feeling. Maybe it's because a lot of the time I feel empty. The day gone by was yet another 1 of those days. So when I hear the music there's this renewed connection to the world, to what's around me.
But it's not just the music itself; it's knowing that many of those who perform are deeply comitted in both time & heart to their music, leading to music being deeply ingrained to their life as a whole. It's knowing that millions & millions of people, past & present, have music as 1 of life's intricacies. The dancing, the break-ups, the joys, the emptiness can be communicated & empathised through the medium of music.
Maybe, most of all, it's the relatibility it offers for me; sometimes my life's musical & full of noise, sometimes it's flat. Those moments I find myself immersed in are fleeting.
