Those who do graphite shading how do you get it to not smudge onto the other page when you're finished and you close the book?

It always transfers to the other page and mess up the drawing on the other page.

I remember I used to use hairspray wjen I didn't have a sealer spray....but prefer getting a piece of tissue wrapping paper or greaseproof and taping it too one edge of the page so it lay between the leaves of the drawing pad.

But honestly - the tissue paper thing can sometimes cause more smudging, coz it can shift and move. Especially if the drawing pad gets moved a fair bit from shelf to lap, to bag etc.

Most of the time I dobt bother now... I mean - what's the worst thats gonna happen?.... The back of another drawing gets dirty?
And really - the back of another page moves less than a piece of tissue.

Note - if you do use hairspray - take it outside and do it... And don't do a fullon coverage in one - some graphites are soluble... And if the spray is too heavy, it'll start to blend - has to be a few super light coats that dry in-between.

The only (and best) other option is to skip a page each time you do a drawing - use the book/pad pages to act as barriers - but of its a good drawing pad - this an is expensive option.

These are all the options I've tried, hope it helps 🤷‍♀️
