A reflection on dishwashers that nobody asked for

I went for a run this morning and I forgot my headphones which led to me thinking about dishwashers for some reason. There is a dishwasher in my home, and I am the only one who chooses not to use it. Perhaps they free time, but I like the deliberate act of washing by hand, and it feels cleaner. The warm water and soapy bubbles on my fingers, the clinking of the porcelain and glass and cutlery, and the monotonous rhythm of wash, rinse, dry can all go beyond a household chores and become small meditative practices. My plates deserve the warmth and care of my hands and not the mechanical whir of a machine!

Plus if I used the dishwasher I would use the time I saved to write more nonsense musings about household appliances like this, and nobody wants that 😭

it feels cleaner. The warm water

It's not. Your hands will get scolded if you subject them to the dishwasher's 150F temperature, which helps clean and sanitize dishes. Not to mention that the dishwasher reduces water waste.

Or you can get a bubble bath when you can the irge 🤣
