Anyone ever experienced the washing machine...

...filling up with water, then draining once you close the lid and walk away?

This just happened for the first time.

There is no dial to restart the wash, so what am I supposed to do?

I have done nothing differently while trying to wash towels.
I loaded it, but detergent, put towels and walked away.

About 2 mins later, I hear a thumping sound coming from washer.
I always spread my clothes/ towels evenly.

I opened the washer and it was washing without the water that I just put in

🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

That doesn't sound good. A couple weeks ago, my washer (top load) wouldn't agitate, so I figured something bad had happened to it.
Manually pumped all the water out, removed all the wet clothes, let the machine sit for a while. Then tried it again and it worked. Dunno 🤷‍♂️

That will happen if a cycle from a previous washing gets interrupted even from a localized power interruption, or if the clothes are taken out at the end of a previous wash if that final drain cycle hasn't totally completed itself.

The computer gets confused if a cycle interruption occurs and it will attempt to complete the last cycle that had gotten interrupted when the washer is started up a week later.

The way to reset the computer is select drain mode if your washer has one, then after it finishes draining, unplug your washer for 30 seconds, then plug it back in again. Start your new wash cycle after that.
