is this usual for a dvd player

i have a newish sony dvd player, i've hardly used it...but i noticed when i'm playing discs in the player and the volume on the tv set is muted, i can hear a low whirring/ spinning sound coming from the player....like hearing the dvds spinning whilst they are playing?

is this normal and nothing to worry about?
