Is This Easy?

My front-loading LG Washer clearly needs a new gasket. If I would order a gasket, would it be easy for me to remove the old one and put in the new one? Me, who has no experience whatsoever with appliance repair? My biggest fear would be damaging the washer in the process.

If you can repair it yourself, congratulations!

However, no-one here can really give proper advice because you've not specified which gasket? I assume that on the door but a washing-machine has several others hidden away inside.

If the door gasket it may just slot onto the steel-work, might be retained by a screwed-on or spring ring, but may need some form of tool to manipulate it properly.

The damage you rightly worry about could include scratching the surrounding paintwork. Although the drum itself is of stainless-steel the outer casing and other parts are of ordinary "mild" steel, which if exposed will soon rust and could cause further problems of its own.

Also, beware of You-tube DIY repairs videos. Judging by many conversations on an amateur engineers' forum I use, there are good ones but also many that show very poor, occasionally even dangerous, practices.

See if you can obtain a proper servicing manual, most likely on the Internet, before resorting to videos which anyway can only give an idea of what's involved. You'd need know the exact model and possibly the serial number of the machine.
