@stound yes, I havent read it though. the author references it as inspiration when he was younger, the the main character of the manga almost always has a copy. Do you know what the original novel is about??

@Bayley4Champ I was just reading about it on Wikipedia, I recalled it as mainly poetry; it seems to be, but poetry of the sort that even the french decided 6 of the poems were too far out there and censored them on publication.

The author and the publisher were prosecuted under the regime of the Second Empire as an outrage aux bonnes mœurs ("an insult to public decency"). As a consequence of this prosecution, Baudelaire was fined 300 francs. Six poems from the work were suppressed and the ban on their publication was not lifted in France until 1949.
