serial experiments lain is a mindfuck of an anime but a mindfuck in a way that other mindfucks just do not compare to.
most shows or movies that throw you for a loop are usually the kind you either look up and have explained by someone that understands nonlinear thinking a little bit better than you or you just kind of throw into the trash heep and move on.
Lain however was a show that outright invited obsession right in and was like go ahead, dive in.
The mindfuck here is unique, in that it will leave you longing on a very deep level to understand what the fuck you just watched.
So what I mean when I call Lain a mindfuck is that it's a mindfuck alright but not in the kind of way that other mindfucks are mindfucks.
This kind of mindfuck is special.
