Question for people who watched the Made in Abyss Movie [I Love Anime]

(Minor spoiler warning)
IMO Bondrewd is a great villain and his design is cool as hell but I don’t want to like him as a character because of the truly awful things he did. Obviously I know the show isn’t real but I’m still conflicted about it. Does anyone else have this dilemma?

We watched season 1 of the series recently. My dilemma was that I liked the story and characters but the fact that the story includes that a common penalty for children who disobey orders is to be strung up naked and whipped (by the supposedly good adults) creeped me out and ruined it for me. The writer has a bunch of fetishes I think. Idk.

Also I heard season 2 is just really sick and perverted so we're staying away from that.
