I Love Anime and Manga

Well, after finishing "Vagabond" (which I think is a must read... like WOW), I finished "Claymore" today. In a lot of places, and in some reviews you find the idea that Claymore is just like "Berserk". So I bought it because... well "Berserk", for as far as I know it, is incredible.

... Is Claymore just like Berserk? No it's not. But it was a nice read.
Do I think Claymore is exceptional? Not it's not. But it was a nice read.
Do I think you should read Claymore? No, it's not nescessary. But if you are going too, It's probably a nice read.

My major problems were, that they paced it to quick at times. And for some reason, some descisions didn't make sense. And then some random character explains it, and everyone that was amazed at first suddenly understands it and gets on with their business. Except for me... the reader.

Another thing is, that it kept expanding it's original story, but things made less and less sense. And of course, the Japanese Monster-thingy... Made less and less sense. BUT it does deliver a good overarching story. I think it could have done a little bit better, but the idea they are playing with are good. It just seems that they didn't know what they were going to do in the future when they made the first 10 books. Then suddenly there is a major plot twist, that makes the first 10 books feel kinda off but it's not weird. Like they deff. build on on what happened, but if they knew what they were doing the first chapters would feel more integrated I guess. I also wonder if it's my imagination, but I think the story has a lot of similarities with "Attack on Titan" on a more abstract level.

The great thing about Claymore is, the art. Like seriously, the art is good. It's all over the place, but it keeps you wondering what is on the next page. The art is also in motion a lot of the time. If you like an incredible action packed book... then this is deff. a good read.

Do I advice you to read Claymore? No... but if you do, it's going to be a good read.
You wanna see women swing huge swords around... Well, then it's a good read.
Do you want loads of action scenes... then this is a good read.
Do you like to watch pretty pictures, well, then this is a good read.
If you haven't read "Vagabond" yet... do it now!

@lancetroy Claymore? I'm not that well read in Manga. I've just been reading comics since I was 6... and wanted to expand a little bit.

@Kwek00 it's a great animation too...try it out

@lancetroy I actually watched it. It was okay. It's also not the best I've seen but it was good enough. The anime correlates with the first 10 books. The anime also stops abruptly in the half of the story... like some anime do :| . I still don't understand how they ended Berserk 1997 🥺

@Kwek00 agreed...the remake of berserk is ok I think

@lancetroy You mean the 3 movies? I personally prefer the 1997 version. I just watched the movies because they ended the arc.

I've been starting to buy the Berserk Deluxe Editions by dark horse. The produce 3 Deluxes each year and started this year. So in a 5 years you have the complete set in omnibus. Right now (the first 3) are the Dark Swordsman Arc... which is way bigger in commic format. And we are just about half over the Golden Arc. The manga of the Golden Arc correlates well with the 1997 anime.

The New series of Berserk is extremely bad in quality. But I watched it annyway, just because I wanted to know how the story went on. I can't really say what I think of Berserk, except for the Anime... since I only read the first 12 books of series that has over 40. But I loved the 1997 anime... A LOT, and the 3 omnibussses gave me a reason to buy other manga this year.

Started collecting Full Metal Alchemist (which I've not read yet), Monster (not read yet), Good night Pun Pun (not read yet), Rurouni Kenshin (not read yet), Tombie & Uzumaki & Gyo, Vagabond, Nausicaa: Valley of the winds, Deathnote, Tokyo Ghoul and Neon Genesis Evangelion.
