The word Touareg in some languages translates to "The many ways". As a Touareg in the great Sahara, you learn to read the night sky and the movements
Of the sands to the winds.
As long as you find the right star, you will always find the path.
There are many guiding stars, not just one. Many right paths, not just one.
I lived for a very short while with that side of family. I was going through so much emotionally back then. I had a brachial plexus injury due to my own recklessness..which was also due to my PTSD being unmanaged.
Though they are my people, I didn't truly know them until then. And they embraced me and didn't want to let me go as if they have known me forever as soon as I got there. Way before I explained my roots. They didn't see my pale skin. They didn't question it.
They said I am a sign of blessings and I have brought them hope. They wanted me to stay with them since the very beginning.
The Touaregs went through so much and they are always resilient, hard to erase, hard to predict, hard to control.. If they love you, it is you who is changed, not them. If they hate you, it is you who is changed too, not them.
And you will want their love. It is vivid, warm, light..it is in their music, their stories, their poetry and their dance. It is in the way they read your fate and the way they pour you tea mixed with shiha plant. It is even in their movement as they come towards you. They read eyes the way we read faces to know other ness.
They are art without trying.
You will fall in love with their freedom their power, intoxicating yet forced back to the realness of nature. You will fall in love with their many ways and their endless openess that can only be comparable to the vastness of the Sahara itself.
