Every Now & Then

My feed will become super stale.
Same names.
Same posts.
Same people replying.

I can hit NEW.
I can click TOP.
Not much changes and some things stay for days upon days in the NEW and TOP sections that were supposedly designed so we could see more and interesting things.

But sometimes the algorithm is just too much and I start to feel isolated and boxed into a bubble.

Personally I think this site should do away with any algorithm that goes outside of our favorites or follows. Sort of how EP used to operate…

Anyways, if this happens to you, maybe you can make use of a tactic I’ve employed from time to time?

I LOG OUT!
Yup, I Log Out.

And then I click the BROWSE icon !

I end up seeing people and posts that I never see. When I first noticed it, I was a little taken aback by the number of posts I had a mind to reply on but couldn’t because I was logged out.

So what I did was whenever I was going to do it, I kept a paper and pen beside me and made note of the usernames that interested me.

Anyways, I saw a couple of posts this past week that made me think this would be a good tip to share with people that somehow ended up stuck with me inside their algorithm, think things get stale, or both.

As Always,
Be well
Live happy
Keep trying,
Rob

It's no secret the feed sucks. It drives me crazy every day for all the reasons you mentioned
candycane · 36-40, F
@Gibbon its never worked since the day it was introduced
HikingMan · 51-55, M
@candycane It’s gotten worse.
It wasn’t ever great, but it’s definitely worse.
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@candycane so I've been told. I can't believe they can't do better. EP was their model how did they screw this up so bad
HikingMan · 51-55, M
@Gibbon
1.) Available Web-host Formatting
2.) Political Correctness
3.) Corporate Interests

This site makes way more than EP ever did.

@Gibbon its automated,when a big site like iorbix died that they owned and ran it,used to be an old discord site,then tried to put them together was even worse
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@HikingMan this site doesn't come close to the volume of members. If EP were the US SW is Rhode Island
candycane · 36-40, F
@Gibbon i wrote a badreview about s w,and got a 13 month limited account ,as he reads them
HikingMan · 51-55, M
@Gibbon I agree. But EP wasn’t monetized the way this site is.

I wish the EP people would have sent out flares for fundraising or something. The members there would have flooded them with donations.

Although I’m still fuzzy on all the details of how it all fell apart as I had been away and lost over 500 rhymes by the time I realized the site was gone.

@HikingMan people are leaving,
HikingMan · 51-55, M
@candycane What better time for some bullshit contest meant to stimulate free advertising in the hopes of some bullshit membership that gives people back some of the things we did on EP by rote for some bullshit year or so???
candycane · 36-40, F
@HikingMan like when they told us we would get paid to bring friends here
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@candycane having read about iorbix which I had no experience with it seems you are absolutely correct. The same issues existed there.
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@HikingMan EP didn't shut down because of money it was primarily due to legal non-compliance with US government subpoenas and an inability to police illegal activities on its anonymous platform. While the official explanation cited privacy concerns and government surveillance, users and reports indicate the site was overwhelmed by search warrants and subpoenas related to illegal drug trafficking and murder.
HikingMan · 51-55, M
@Gibbon I am not easily surprised, and I’m surprised.

Though I suppose the freedom and frivolity of the main users could have made it a haven for secret and discreet discussions by all types of nefarious people?

I’m shocked that the thoughts running through my mind now are shocking to me as I look back.

I’m absolutely dumbfounded right now reading your words and recognizing them as the most likely scenario.

Holy idiocy!!!

WTF???
HikingMan · 51-55, M
@Gibbon I’m an idiot
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@HikingMan those of us who dug into it were also surprised and pissed at those responsible for abusing the best social website that ever existed
