I was closer to my grandfather than anyone else on the planet. He was a twisted mix of compassion and stone. He devoted so much time to carrying me to and from hospitals, physical therapy, school and church. At the same time he wasn’t a very warm person; “men don’t hug they shake hands” a man of few words but he cared.
