Write a letter to your future partner.

When I was a kid, this used to be something common. Or I don't know, a trend at some point for kids who go to church and end up writing journals?

The thing I learned growing up is that the picture of what you want isn't the picture of what you get. It's always different - what God gives.

What happens is that your thinking changes because you get to see something else is more important. And the more you see, the more you understand. The more you understand, the more you change.

Back when I was little, I wanted romance for fun. Like those Disney things. A princess finding a prince. A damsel in distress getting rescued.

Funny how I learned to pick up a sword, fight my own damn wars and rebuild a broken home and teach people better is still possible. Happiness and strength come to those who chase after it.

I haven't picked up a pen to write something like a letter to who I imagined my future partner will be. But if I do, I don't think it will sound wishful or hopeful like it used to be when I did it as a kid.

Now, when I imagine talking to someone who will be in my future before I meet him, what I think about is this...

"I hope you're doing okay. I hope you get good rest, and eat well and sleep well. I hope you have time to pray and time for yourself and for things and people you love. I hope when you need a break, you have people to lean on. I hope you find whatever happiness you have worth the while. I hope you have developed the courage and ability to enjoy hardships and overcome come what may. I hope God is smiling right at you.
When we do meet, I imagine it would be like two ships sailing and being joined into one. Two captains meeting for something bigger than ourselves.
When that time happens, I pray my heart is big enough to not just care for my ship but for yours as well, and most especially for you too.
I hope when we do meet, we'll have what it takes to choose each other because we want to make the other happy, to protect them, be with them and keep them safe.
Not because we're reliant and need to be dependent on someone in the superficial, imaginative I need you to do the work kind. But in the way that I already know what I have to do and I am doing it with or without you. But when you come, I know it would mean something more and I would see the world and everything in it in a different view. Then I can actually be and do more because paths and destinations that weren't there before are suddenly open for the taking. Like your existence alone is adding value to mine and making me look towards the future in a more exciting light.
So until then, take care of yourself and what is yours, and build in preparation of what we could become. I'll be praying for you till then and after. If anything, I hope you know, someone else is praying for what you desire."

And as I think about it, so many things have changed. And so many things are still changing. And I, I feel I'm looking forward to tomorrow. :)

May you do too.
