More work drama
So there's a young guy at work ( I will call him Sam), who is a little "special " and socially awkward, but very intelligent. He only talks to a few people at work, and I happen to be one of them. He texted me and asked me if I would ask a coworker named Gail what she thought about him. I didn't want to but he kept bugging me so the next day I asked her and her response was very harsh and mean. Naturally I didn't want to tell him and I hoped he would forget about it but he texted me and asked what she said about him. I told him I would rather not tell him because he would be hurt, but he kept going on and on begging me to tell him so I finally did. I could have lied, but I knew if I did, he would go straight to Gail and bug her, so I had to tell him what she said so hopefully he would leave her alone. Instead, he said he was going to the store director and ask him if he thought he was like Gail described. I was worried about getting in trouble myself because any kind of altercation between employees can get them fired. So I was stressed about him talking to him and mentioning my name. So before it got to him, I called my immediate team leader and told her what was going on before Sam went to the store director about it. She got mad at me and told me not to be friends with people at work and to just go to work and not talk to anyone ever. So I was off work today and my phone rang and it was Human Resources!!! They had me on speaker phone asking me all kinds of questions about what happened. It was literally nothing- I asked Gail what she thought about Sam, she said negative stuff, I didn't want to tell Sam but finally did and it has really escalated badly. Last year Sam got a coworker fired because they had words, and I really didn't want Sam mad at me, so that's why I finally told him what Gail said about him. My mistake was going to my team leader about it before Sam went to the store director. I'm a bit stressed about going back to work tomorrow. I told Sam last night that I was not gonna talk to him anymore about Gail and for him to avoid going near her, but he's demanding to know why she said what she said. What a nightmare. Thankfully I have not heard from Sam today at all, so I don't know if Human Resources called him about it or not. Dreading work tomorrow.
