Too guarded people

I know a few people that were always hard to get close to. I guess their logic is don't let anyone in because they will eventually leave/hurt you so they push everyone away like do it to them before they can do it to you. anyone have this experience? how do you deal with them??

Yes ive come across people like that. They are always complaining about how everyone has let them down and about how lonely they are and how no one is there for them. They dig their own hole.
