[code]I. Ominis Gaunt is a Slytherin student who was born to the House of Gaunt, a family of Dark Wizards who are the direct, pure-blooded descendants of Salazar Slytherin, one of the four founding members of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

II. From his early childhood, Ominis developed a strong distaste for the Dark Arts, much to the disapproval of his family. In a personal recollection of his early years, Ominis confides in the protagonist that his parents and siblings held the tradition of torturing Muggles with curses, including the unforgivable Cruciatus Curse. Ominis was taught the curse as a child but refused to perform it, angering his family to the point of casting the curse on him themselves. Ominis eventually relented, no thanks in small part to the excruciating amount of pain the spell inflicted on him. As Unforgivable Curses like Crucio only work if the user has the strong intention and desire to inflict pain, Ominis carries with him a great amount of guilt for wanting to inflict pain, and he has not forgiven himself since. These events have caused a rift between him and his family that only grew larger.

Ominis is good friends with Sebastian Sallow and his twin sister Anne, in whom he found solace, and whose family and house young Ominis would often retreat to, to get away from his own family. According to Sebastian, Ominis was born blind and no spell could reverse it, which prompted him to develop a keen understanding and relationship with his wand which Sebastian describes as 'almost sentient', allowing him to navigate the world around him despite the lack of sight.

IV. As a member of the House of Gaunt, Ominis is a relative of Lord Voldemort, the main antagonist of the Harry Potter series of books and films. Voldemort himself was a descendant of the House of Gaunt, having been born Tom Marvolo Riddle, son of Merope Gaunt. While the House of Gaunt have long prided themselves of being a pure-blooded wizarding family, the streak ended when Voldemort's mother married Tom Riddle Sr., a Muggle. This marriage gave birth to the Dark Lord, making his grandfather Marvolo Gaunt, the last of the pure-bloods of the Slytherin line. It is unclear what Ominis' relation is to Marvolo Gaunt, as the latter was born some time before 1890 but it is likely that they are cousins.[/code]
