The nightmares just don’t stop

I woke up from a really bad one a while ago and now I can’t go back to sleep. This has been a recurring pattern: I’ll go for a while without having anymore nightmares, which has me thinking they’ve finally subsided for now, but then they just come right back. I guess one can never truly be free from their traumatic past experiences even if they have moved on from them. But even if the nightmares never stop, I’m ready for them. I’ve survived through it all before and I’ll survive through it again and again if I need to. I am a survivor and even if my past still haunts me, I’ll never let it make me a victim again.

I know I’ve talked about this several times but I’m going to continue to talk about it for as long as I need to.
No, they don't ever stop. I have dreamed of violent death (usually my own, but sometimes the people I love most) every single night for 42 years at least. Some nights are so vivid and real I am shaken for days. I literally hate sleep.

Hope yours clear up and things get better soon.

@JAYS21 unfortunately, after over four decades of nightmares, sleep deprivation isn't that big of an issue.

Trying hanging a dream catcher on the wall above you. It worked for my wife and stopped her nightmares
@James1956 I don’t believe those things work that way.

Don’t you think they’re trying to tell you something?
@JovialPlutonian Sometimes I feel they’re a reflection of some regrets I have. But I think they’re more nasty reminders of what I’ve endured than anything.

@PerchingDove well they still seem to be in your subconscious

Sounds like you may need to thrash those thoughts or with someone you trust ...
@ozgirl512 Wish I had more I could trust.
