I Love Satire

The finest piece of satire i've ever seen.
The show was called The secret policeman's ball and was a fundraiser for Amnesty International in 1979.
That same year, the leader of the UK Liberal Party, Jeremy Thorpe was involved in a scandal involving a 'man of dubious character' who alleged a homosexual affair and that Thorpe had subsequently ordered a 'hit-man' to assassinate this man(Norman Scott) and so prevent the details becoming public knowledge.
However. The 'hitman' was so incompetent Scott survived and had his day in court.
Thorpe, in a bid to clear his name, took Scott to court. As evidence was heard, it was clear Thorpe had lied under oath in the High court.
However the Judge's summing up of the case was SO outrageously in favour of the 'upstanding' politician and so flagrantly biased against Scott it became ripe for satirical lambasting in the press for a week afterwards.
The 'Judge' is the late, great Peter Cook
