I Am Worried

I feel like a real loser at my job. I'm a reporter and I send my editor my drafts and he keeps sending them back to me asking for revisions and what he prefers to have in the article instead of the angle I'm getting at. I get it, it's his job but he always rewrites my work anyways no matter what I send him. Last night, he told me how frustrated he was that he spent hours revising my article. And for another story I did, he didn't like the pictures I took. He just makes me feel like I'm incompetent for the job and I'm scared that he'll fire me the more I disappoint him. I really need this job so that I can get published experience.

Why don't you have a one on one with him and ask him for help to set expectations right and then try conformance to those..it helps to convert your boss into a mentor early on in career from my personal experience..

@mummaverick4: Right. I know what you mean. I mean, he knows I'm new at this and that I never studied journalism in school. But I feel like he's still expecting perfection. That's the problem. No one has patience to train someone. Every time I mess up, I always apologize and let me know that it won't happen again. At least when I make mistakes, I never make the same ones twice.

@JewStar4Life: well that's already a good start.. dont apologize too much .. thats something i learnt too.. a lot of this depends on projecting and presenting positivity .. even when you messed up ;)
I don't claim to know how to do it in your profession but still you can try and project your efforts positively .. discuss your efforts objectively with your manager .. take hiss inputs and show how you incorporated them in your work the next time ..keep the loop going and i am sure he will notice your positivity learning and excellent hard work ..
