How do you know you're smart enough for a new job?

What if life has just been a massive streak of good luck up till now? I'm always being clumsy, saying or doing something stupid... How the hell will I fit in this new place? What if they catch on to my average-ness? They're gonna tear me apart, like they almost did before at my last workplace.

I feel like 60%+ of people have experience but not competency. Their background surely shows how proficient they are but then you hire them and you come to find everything was learned onto them, not the other way around. Not a very helpful individual if you need improvements.
