I Love Nicknames Used As Terms Of Endearment

Do you use terms of endearment for those you love? I do and everybody I love gets a nickname. There is no rhyme or reason how I choose them. They just come to me.

For instance, I named my daughter and I loved her name but I rarely used it unless I was making a point. I called her Genevieve, short for my sweet Genevieve.

My son had it worst. Not only did he have a nickname but I made up a song to go with it. I sang it loud and fast…Yes, both kids tolerated me.

My 2 little granddaughters I call my little chickadees.
My new grandson is Dink or dink a doo.

My brother’s came from his ex wife. She was from Chile and could not pronounce his name. She called him Shimmy and it became Shimmy, shimmy coco puffs…I know awful.
My ex husband? “The B*stard” until I really learned to curse…and I got really creative.

Even my pets get them. My little dog was Cutie Patootie but we called her Foo or Fooby Do. I have no idea why.
If I give you a nickname, it means I love you…If I don’t, don’t worry, you will get one in time. Just know that I love you when I bestow one upon you.

I do that too... had a dog a long time ago named Sabreena... which I shortened to Breezy... as she got older I called her Old Baba... which evolved to Hubba Bubba and then simply Hubbo... my last dog was Mocha but I usually called her Mokes or Pokamo... I'm not sure why either...

I have pet names for most of the people in my life also... but usually I don't tell them... I guess I'm worried that they may take offense, although none is intended... that is just how I think of them in my heart and mind and it is always special for me...

that is so funny the progression in names...don't worry about offending people. if it comes from a pure heart (and you have one my friend) by all means express your love.

If I use a term of endearment, it means that person is very special to me. Its not common for me to use 'hun' or 'love' the way others do...

If I let a person use a term of endearment to call me, then that person must be someone special too.

I liked me EP nickname....it kinda grew on me....and only a few special people know how to use it that brings a smile on my face... :)

How sweet. My first wife was Froggy, second Jake, Thunder was Thunderdog or Puppyboy. Used to call my brother Rotgut, our whole family refers to us as "The boys" and our mother Lucille was called Buddy, and Aunt Rose was Tootie, great uncle Rudolf was Dude. Uncle Albert Tracy was Dick Tracy.

I have nicknames for everyone also. I makes me feel closer somehow because it's something only I share with them, though they eventually catch on with everyone else also.

My two daughters have been called by their nicknames all their lives now.

EXACTLY....and that is why it is a term of endearment!

My husband started calling me Kitten relatively recently and I love it. I call him honey bunny but it's not quite the equivalent to Kitten! --DW
CoffeeFirst
If you want to borrow him, he might call you Kitten, too, if you want. But I'm gonna need him back when y'all are, um, done, darling. --DW :-)
akindheart · 61-69, F
LOL....i swear you make me laugh...and that is mighty big of you to loan me yours...I shall take good care of him darling...xo
CoffeeFirst
If you make him happy, I'm happy, luv. I know he would make you happy, he's that kind of guy...--DW

Like what do you mean? Like "honey" or something? Anyone who becomes super close to me gets as nickname, & it just kinda happens :)
Dreamscape98x
Okay (:
akindheart · 61-69, F
Exactly...you can call anyone babe or honey. It takes someone special to be more.

Of course. My favorite is my daughter. I call her tinkerbell. It was cute when she was young. Now that she is a teenager, it annoys her. I use it a little more often now. But with a lot more love.
akindheart · 61-69, F
aww...that will pass. I know...and believe me, shewill remember you with love.
