I Grew Up In a Broken Home

If my memory serves me correctly,I was 7 years old when my dad left us.My mama, older sister and me.My dad was a deputy sheriff at the time and worked a lot,so I was used to him not being home. The day came when mama was served the divorce papers. It didn't seem strange to see mama crying,it had been pretty common the past several weeks. That day mama spent almost all day in her room,my sister came to my rescue and explained why.I remember we held each other and cried when she said daddy wouldn't be coming back home.To make a long story short,I was 18 before I was reunited with my dad.I go and visit him as much as I can because it's the right thing to do.I will have to admit that the ordeal had quite an effect on me mentally.Whenever I know of a child that's been through a divorce,I try to show him special attention.I guess that's one good thing that came out of my parents divorce. My heart goes out to those children and I try to help them by telling them my experience. To all the people on this site, you have a friend. Peace
