I Have Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome

It angers me so much that not even my family understands such a basic concept. Potential employers will not be understanding of that either. People say you're just being lazy or if you go to bed earlier you'll wake up earlier. You'll be ready to sleep. So why when I tried that it never worked? I can't sleep at night unless I take something that forces my body to sleep early by making me drowsy but even then I don't feel ready to be awake and my energy level, concentration, creativity, and focus isn't up and running until about noon. Late morning it starts wearing off and I hate my highest peaks mid afternoon, late afternoon, evening and late overnight. Naturally my body starts feeling sleepy depending how immersed I am in my projects or hobbies I can stay up until 4 or 5 am no problem. Early natural bedtime for me is 2 or 3am. They have been times I stayed up until 6am -7am until the sky started to turn light and I watched the sun rise my most wonderful hours sunset to sunrise. Yet in a very rigid society people expect you to automatically be up for the 8-4. School years were brutal for me and trying to have jobs that sometimes expected you to come in the morning made me a zombie. I can't just "get over it." Where I live too everything closes up early. I try to wake up mid morning during the week 9:00am -10:00am and even then I am still half asleep. Sleeping pills didn't help nothing has helped I need work with a flexible schedule or stable schedule that lets me start much later during the day.

It's unfortunate that you suffer from that condition. I know a couple of people that are "night owls" and they adjust their lives around their energy level. Try to communicate and explain what you are going through with your family. If they understand your condition they could help you with some of the anxiety your facing.
