Sooo actually the opposite of this group lmao

I've never been to a baby shower. I'm going to my first one in a few weeks and most of the gifts on the registry are out of my price range (guess that happens when you're the only one of your friends thats not rich lol). Is it rude or not appropriate to buy a gift not on the registry? Diapers or clothes or decorative gifts, etc?

I'd stay away from decorative stuff since a lot of parents plan out their baby's "theme" and go a little nuts with it when planning the nursery lol. But it's okay to buy off the list they give as long as it's practical. If it's diapers, don't buy for newborns, buy a size or two up since they're probably stocked with newborn diapers. But clothes are always acceptable. And we usually give things like this

because it's so useful (occupies their mouth and hands) and has so many designs/animals it's likely nobody has gotten them that exact one

Not rude at all! Diapers and wipes and personal gifts from friends are very sweet and thoughtful. No one should expect you to drop all your money on their baby.
