I Write Whatever I Want To Write

They say your sense of smell opens the doors of nostalgia - you know, you catch a whiff of a particular scent (cookies, anyone?) and you're instantaneously transported back in time to your Grandma's house.

I'm no different, as I've definitely caught myself reminiscing about my childhood home after smelling lilacs on the breeze.

However, I think that music may be an even more powerful memory trigger for me - I can hear the opening notes of a song from my youth, say Reminiscing by the Little River Band, and in my mind I have traveled 40 years back in time and I'm swinging on a swing in my back yard, listening to the FM radio.

I've reread old letters I've sent and received, however, they just don't have the same power to stir memories. Same with photographs - I enjoy them, but they don't fully evoke the moment like the perfect song does every single time!

I remember driving through the town of Little River, thinking of the Little River Band, who named themselves after the town, and the times I've seen them live....

Its like the soundtrack of your life, there is always a song that was playing on your key events.
