A holly wood blockbuster in 1950's. In it he says "Hate keeps a man Alive". How do you perceive this statement ?

SweetMae · 70-79, F
It must be a stressful way to live.

@usher Guess I will have to watch the movie.

@SweetMae It's an oldie but created on 35 mm movie reels loosely based on the Roman conquest of Judea. A superb movie
@usher it is 👍🏻
I perceive it as a lie.
@usher In general it would be a lie but he was strongly making a point... so I guess.

@NoGamesTolerated in a lot of cases 'Hate keeps a Man(woman) Alive'
@usher In the most general sense that is not true. But I’m those cases that you should know of, it must be a horrible life.

As out of context.

@usher I imagine it was ment to show that his will was never broken, even though he had no choice but to obey. His hatered for his oppressors gave him a focus and fueled his drive. I'm sure he saw many with out that loose hope and die.

I'm fuzzy on the story, but he was captured and forced into slavery, wasn't he?

@Dolimyte Yes, the phrase was spoken by the Roman lord when he(Ben Hur) almost rebelled but reluctantly stopped as he knew it was futile. The Roman Lord replied with "Hate keeps a man Alive" and for that moment it was true.
@Dolimyte I agree
