I Respect The People Who Deserve To Be Respected

Can’t find a full title in “ experience “

Respect is a hard thing to understand and Truly know of what level others expect of us when it comes to respecting them .
I lived in Rwanda for 2 years and on a daily basis I followed a young boy and his sister on the road , route , about 4 miles to a village water pump ,( I worked with the local village society development group )
Anyway on a about day 4 , on leaving the pump station I caught up with that two children and showed them my I’d badge and with a female colleague we offer to help carry two of the water containers as it was very muddy and wet . But the girl just shook her head and smiled graciously , and struggled on , I felt terrible , I had insulted her dignity and place in her family and culture , it was her purpose and need to earn her own respect , what we see through western eyes as poverty and hardship , is a cultural way of life for others.
I learned later on her and her brother were the happiest children ever , no materialistic need , just life and respect , the biggest education in life I ever learned
