Why are kids so disrespectful now? And why do parents allow it?

It's stupid how poor these kids act I wouldn't have thought of acting that way.

I have two kids. They will be disrespectful and back talkers if we allow it. With my oldest, when she entered the "Terrible Ten's" which is repeat of the Terrible Two's but more vocal and with more attitude. Ten year old's are starting to assert themselves and often don't know how to do it. I find listening, listening and then more listening works well. I try to listen to more what they are trying to say then how they are saying it. If they are disrespectful, I address it after they have told me what they are trying to say.

I am far from perfect, and not even a good parent some days, but this works for me.

@Lynn1976 For stuff like this I love joe frosts method. Ten minutes in a space then come in and talk. You cool down they cool down

@Rosiechick13 That is mostly what time-out is all about.
If kids are disrespectful, it’s because parents allow it. And so many more do now, than ever before.
@Rosiechick13 I don’t get it. My brothers and I weren’t raised that way. And my niece and nephews aren’t, but so many kids are nowadays.

@JustGoneNow Many parents don't know how to deal with kids because they're like that themselves so that's why. It's really bad.
@SatanBurger yeah. Like most things. It starts at the top.
Parents got soft 🤷‍♀️

Partly because parents are afraid of being labeled bad parents if they say no to their kids especially in stores ( don’t make a scene) that’s my opinion.
Rosiechick13 · 31-35, F
@Repete As a parent is if they make a scene. My job isn't to convince others now. It's to raise productive members of society for later
Repete · 61-69, M
I agree with you . As a parent also but I’ve seen parents giving in when the kid was even calling the parents names and throwing a big fit. I think every parent has gone through something like that at least once and in my opinion that’s the time to correct them not give in and talk to them later. I also know every parent parents differently and every issue is different. @Rosiechick13

Parenting. I've actually lived with many parents who sleep when they want to, let their kids watch tv all day, self prescribe their kids or exaggerate symptoms to get add, sleep or other medications to drug their kids when they don't need to, don't have their kids on a regular schedule so it screws with them, different parenting styles or just absent or micro managing their kids.

Yup fun times, believe it or not this is the majority.
Lynn1976 · 46-50, F
@SatanBurger I think that is with some parents, but I don't think it is the majority. But many doctors are very quick to describe ADHD meds with parents who are equally quick to accept those meds.
SatanBurger · 36-40, FVIP
@Lynn1976 It's the majority especially the suburbs.
Lynn1976 · 46-50, F
@SatanBurger Maybe there but I live in the suburbs and most of the parents here are good as are their kids.

My two kids certainly have their moments, but when they do they have consequences if is for disrespect, among other things.
Cause they are spoiled ass brats and parents allow it because they are scared to discipline anymore
Magenta · F
It's such a disgrace. Lacking discipline is the biggest culprit.
Lynn1976 · 46-50, F
@Magenta I completely agree. And discipline doesn't always mean punishment. Teach kids so they know the boundaries and know that there are consequences for breaking them.
Keeper · M
Entitlement. Some parents feed the "immediate gratification" machine and don't teach their kids how to do without or problem solve.

They grow up without the proper skills, nor equipped to deal with real life and turn into a$$holes when things don't go their way.
