I Hate Dentists

So I spent about £20 at the dentists today for them to say 'you have a minor infection, we will give you a temporary filling, go home, take soon painkillers and come back next week'. No shit, I've been saying I've got a tooth infection for days.

A. Why not just give me a filling today?

B. If painkillers helped infections there wouldn't be a need for anti-biotics (and also, it would have gone by now as I'm currently swallowing painkillers like they're smarties), so why not give me something for that?

I swear they do this shit so we have to pay them extra.

as I understand it, the antibiotics are to kill the infection, the painkillers are to make it not too painful while thats happening, and they can't do the filling because infection causes swelling, and they need the swelling to go down to get a proper filling in (otherwise it'll have gaps that will let food in and cause more decay), hence the temporary filling.

If they didnt give you antibiotics, they must feel your body is fighting the infection OK, but clearly it hasn't finished doing so yet.

@firefall: Hopefully because I don't want to go back next week for them to say 'you still have an infection, come back another time'. That will be me spending money I don't really have, going through an unnecessarily long duration of pain and messing up my kidneys through excessive amounts of painkillers

@Skelepop666: yep. Depends how much you trust the dentist I suppose.

@firefall: I don't know, how much do people really trust a person they see for about 15 minutes every 6 months? lol
