I Lied

I'm in he planning phase for a piano-piano duet with a friend I made on the internet. The thing is, he's really inexperienced. He's been playing for 3 months. I've basically been playing since I was 3. I lied and told him I've only been playing for five years, so he wouldn't feel like I'm some piano God or something stupid, and then end up to afraid to work on his half just because of my high expectations etc etc.

Was it the right thing to do? Should I have told him I've been playing for even less time? Or maybe 8 years? Or should I have told him the truth?
