Parents are not always correct but hopefully there intentions are good. Humans tend to pass down both good and bad. Hopefully we are able to figure out which is which.

I agree..it's so hard to make a huge change without being guilty of hurting others I guess..Atleast that's what my big issue is

There is no reason to feel guilty if you are not hurting someone. If someone is hurting you you just have to walk away.
