I Don't Talk to My Dad

My dad is a successful man, but none of his employees likes him. He's so rude and grumpy and always makes people feel like sh!t. Heck, even tho I'm his daughter, he makes ME feel worthless.

He isn't fond of my lifestyle and some choices I've made. Um, thinking about the bad things that happened to him in the past few years, he did lose his cousin who also was his best friend since childhood in 2014. As far as I can remember he's never been nice towards his employees. One of them stole his money few months ago. His health isn't that great yet he's never seen a doctor for more than 10 years.

I'm sorry. My dad and I were best friends until he died. Unfortunately he died at 57, when I was 29, but never a day went by that we didn't talk, just for the sake of sharing thoughts. Did anything happen, to change his attitude? Has he always been rude with employees? Was there a financial setback, divorce, death of someone he cared about, health issues. People rarely change suddenly and never without some precipitating factor.

Missing, did he suddenly get rude and grumpy when he turned 60? I'm actually trying to make a point here. I was telling people yesterday the rude grumpy old people, were very likely that way before they got old. Was your dad any different five years ago?

Maybe he's just stressed so much and you don't know what's he actually going through, try to be a little patient with him or help him in a way or another.

My dad's is 62 and he's literally like yours. They get tired in that age, they're having difficult times.

Can you sit him down, tell him you miss your "daddy" and ask him to set aside one evening every couple of weeks to just be friends again. Maybe he's missing you and doesn't know how to go back to being the good guy.

Perhaps it would be best to keep him out of your life. I have extracted family members that have degraded my quality of life and it is wonderful. Just a thought.

I wish. Last time I saw him I went for a hug and was like "Dad! I miss you " He dodged the hug and said "Look at your car. Who parks like this? "

@Mahjack - I think you're right. It's hard to be patient.

Some leadership takes anger to move people, your dad is one of them :D

He never seems in the mood to talk or listen.

What happened 3-4 years ago that changed things.

I'm trying but it kinda makes me feel sad tbh.

@ArtDecade - about what?

@ArtDecade aren't you adorable 😂

Sorry to hear that that sucks
Elegy · 46-50
Can you just ask him?
SW-User
@Serenitree- Honestly yeah, at least to me. He was much nicer. Throughout my childhood and teens we were close. Now..he keeps pushing me away. He's getting worse. Or maybe, it's actually me.
Elegy · 46-50
I don't know about that. If he makes you feel worthless but you know you aren't stay away from him.
RustyZipper · 61-69, M
There are some people you just don't need in your life. If they happen to be family, well, that's the breaks.
down2business · 31-35, M
That sucks, sounds like he's not actually being too successful at the moment...
SW-User
I'd say things started to get worse like 3-4 years ago.
SW-User
Indeed. The gap is getting bigger.
Serenitree · F
And, I'm betting he isn't an old man?
KnightRanger · 56-60, M
😥 I'm sorry to hear that!
