I Teirdalin Is Awesome
It's an overhead game where you control a colony of dwarves and farm, mine, and defend your fortress against goblins, animals, werecreatures, vampires, monsters, and forgotten horrors in the deep. (And more if you dig too deep)
You can customize everything about the game, including changing the playable races or what they can make and do; and the community has made some incredible overhauls for it such as The Rise of The Mushroom Kingdom which adds in every creature from the Mario games, custom graphics music and audio. And Warhammer Fortress which adds in everything from the Warhammer Fantasy.
Personally I like to create a High Elf race with some basic magic abilities as my go-to race for Dwarf Fortress, you can also play adventure mode where you control a hero and can go do quests, explore the randomly generated world, write poems, and go treasure hunting such as finding forbidden knowledge in Necromancer towers or finding the treasures hidden in a vault; something I haven't ever successfully discovered what they have inside yet due to the powerful guardians.
