I'm going to a friend's child's birthday party

They want to buy him a VR Headset. Like, the dude is 6. I guess my husband showed him his and now the kid has been asking for one.

My husband's was like $500 and I don't want them spending that on a 6 year old kid that would probably not even play it much.

I did find one for $40 and $150.

Do you think the child would know the difference?

Jesus, kids are too spoiled these days
SW-User
@Disposal Yeah. I don't want them spending so much for nothing.
Cardboard box and half an imagination should do the trick

These kids k ow the difference these days but there’s no way I’d spend that much money on a 6 year old, especially if they aren’t mine.
SW-User
@Keepitsimple I'm not buying but I'm helping hahaha

I couldn’t do that. First temper tantrum the things go flying across the room and break. :( @SW-User

For a birthday present I would consider that $150 way to much already 😅

What's a good non-Facebook brand btw? 🤔

@SW-User One of those simple smartphone VR sets?
@chrisCA Right? Unless you support for medical stuff, but that's not a birthday present.
chrisCA · M
@Classified For just a friend's child, they would get a birthday card with a 20 in it.
Classified · M
@chrisCA Something like that yes.

At that age I seriously doubt he'd know the difference between an expensive one and a cheap one.
SW-User
@AntisocialTroll Thank you

When I was a kid, I would have been lucky to get a book for my birthday.
Nope he won't notice any difference.
SW-User
@PiecingBabyFaceTogether Thank you. That's what I wanted to know
@SW-User I would not notice a difference too tbh lol probably the $500 is way more comfortable to wear for a long period of time and that's it.
ExtremeNext · 31-35
Buy him socks it's cheaper
SW-User
@ExtremeNext If it was my child, I would hahaha
I wish my parents would have been like that for my birthday presents! 🤭 But just a heads up be careful with those, my ex had one and that thing actually said not to play on it too long or it can like screw up your vision
SW-User
@SweetNSassy hahahaha Right? I had to buy my own things.

I'm like, your kid doesn't need that
@SW-User lol well kids are kinda spoiled now days. I guess if the parents have the money just tell them what you find and let them decide, after all it is their kid.
Dolimyte · 41-45, M
You're not supposed to use them if you're under 12.
Dolimyte · 41-45, M
@SW-User maybe, but he's six, that is way too expensive in my opinion. He'll probably just break it in a week.
SW-User
@Dolimyte That's why I want the $30-$40 version. If it breaks, they won't be set back that much
Dolimyte · 41-45, M
@SW-User exactly.
Ofcourse not. That's too much to spend on VR also it is dangerous. Rather gift him something else.
iamelijah · 26-30, M
I wouldn't spend that much on a kid. But, if you insist, better find the cheapest one.
SW-User
@iamelijah I'm not spending but they are the ones asking me to help
SW-User
That’s ridiculous...🙄..
No 6 year old needs that.
...yes, kids are programmed to be brand aware.
SW-User
@SW-User It's not my choice. I'm just trying to help my friends hahaha
SW-User
Get him a toy gun lol pew pew’ punk 🤡
SW-User
@SW-User hahahahahaha
I'm not sure I get you.... the kid wanted you to buy him that?

As a rule for kids I do the following
Family: upto £50 unless it is a special birthday
Close friends £20-25
Other kids £10-15
SW-User
@InOtterWords No, the kids parents want to buy it for their kid. They just asked me about it to help them find one.

I think it's way too expensive and a waste for a 6 year old
@SW-User whats wrong with lego?
SW-User
@InOtterWords I'm not the parents. Trying to talk them out of it
