I Get In The Weirdest Situations

Got myself into a pretty weird situation today while out shopping.
I went to the mall today to buy myself a new purse, you know casual fun stuff. When I was looking at bags there were two in particular that I really liked. So I'm eyeing the both of them, holding them up while looking into the giant mirrors they have trying to see which looks better on me. As I'm doing this (probably looking crazy as hell) this pretty, well-dressed girl (Latina, I think) who was somewhat near me looks at me and says "Wow, I really like your jacket!" Just a compliment, nothing weird, so I just smile and thank her for her comment. Then she walks a little more near me then asks me where I bought it from. Still, nothing crazy, so I tell her I got it from Marshalls a little while back.
She then starts telling me how much she likes Marshalls and how she's going to have to go back sometime soon to see if she can find it for herself. I laugh and tell her good luck. I walk over a little bit towards a different display of bags when I hear her coming back over to me saying "I just love everything in this store!! I can't get over it". Now, I'm like okkk... she isn't trying to hold a conversation with me, is she? Cause I don't really think I'm giving off 'HEYYYY, I want to talk' vibes. I was definitely friendly with her a few moments ago, but to me, that doesn't equate to wanting a full-on conversation. Not being rude I say "Same! Everything is so modern and cute".
I then ask her if she's seen the athletic style section of the store, she says no, and I suggest she go and look at it in the nicest way possible, hoping this was a clear enough hint. She says she eventually will then continues to look at the bags near me. I'm still looking at the two bags in my hands and she begins commenting on the different details on both and what she likes about each. I agree with her and tell her I'm still deciding. She then asks me if I live nearby.... I tell her I live in the next town over, then she tells me what town she lives in. I'm just like '0hh rlly?? k00l!' Then she asks me what I do for work, I tell her, and she tells me she works with her husband and his company. I'm like, "That must be nice!". All of a sudden her phone rings and I'm thinking OK THIS IS MY CHANCE TO WALK AWAY FROM THIS AWKWARD EXPERIENCE WHILE SHE TAKES THIS CALL... Apparently, she didn't even answer, probably ignored the call, cause she quickly started chatting again. Talking about how she's looking for a new wallet, then I'm like "Well, girl you're in the wrong section, wallets are over on that wall!". I'm pointing to the other side of the section. She quickly says some excuse as to why she isn't going to go over there and continues looking at the purses. So, I'm like, ok I'm just gonna leave.
I finally made my decision on which bag I wanted. So, I tell her, "Nice chatting with you, but I think I've made my decision! Having a good evening!" I'm starting to walk away, then she's like "Hey, I didn't get your name." I tell her my name, then I ask about hers, she tells me. I smile and say nice to meet you. Then she says "Hey, since we just had such a great conversation, I was thinking I could get your number and we can continue to talk." While she held her phone out to me. I don't know why but this disturbed me. First of all, we barely had a conversation. It was just her following me, making general statements about different items. Secondly, it wasn't like we 'hit it off'. I mean, the shared words were friendly, but that's it. For the first time I actually really looked into her eyes to see if they looked crazed in any way. She looked tired and a bit desperate. Putting pieces together, I just ask her, "You don't know many people around here?" She says no, that she recently moved here, then starts telling where she use to live. This gave me some ease, cause I realized she's just trying to make friends... In a weird way.
I ended up giving her my number and now I regret it. She hasn't called or texted, but I don't want her to either. Based on the way she acted in the store, I know she's probably going to. I kinda feel sorry for her and don't want to ignore her but at the same time if I did talk to her, WHAT WOULD WE TALK ABOUT? We literally only talked in the store for about 5-8 minutes. I'm really hoping she doesn't text me. I hate ignoring texts.

I'm sorry you were bothered by that. I know it can be awkward sometimes... But at least you did something nice by giving her your number. :) I'm sure it made her happy.
