I Love Scented Candles

Emotive

Freshly cut grass has always reminded me of my very first best friend, Liz. The last time she came for a sleepover at my house was just before she & her family moved back to English, we were both seven years old. We went out to play in the fields behind my house, her hay fever kicked in & she went all red & puffy.

Parma Violets (the violet flavoured sweets) remind me of a particular day trip we took to the seaside, when I was about nine. All us children were huddled in the backseat with a big bag of pick 'n' mix from Woolworths, & I, delighted, discovered that no one else liked them so I had my favourite sweets all to myself.

The crispness of winter reminds me of the very first time I ever saw snow, I was three years old. My mother had me dressed all cosy in hat & scarf, duffle coat, & Paddington bear's wellie boots (the ones that my teddy actually wore. I was so little they fit.) She set me free into that winter wonderland, & my view of the world was changed forever.

Sometimes though, you can force it, a little.

I have the same candles in my house that he has in his. I lit them as soon as I arrived home yesterday, & immersed myself in the sweet smells of our weekend together.

*happy sigh*

The reed diffusers lose their umph quickly I think.
