It is black because it is a Tibicen or Neotibicen cicadia.

They live under ground for months and then they come up, shed their shell and become that only to live for just a couple of days...but they make a lot of noise while they're alive!!!

They are usually green or a light color.. I've never seen a dark one like that before.. Odd
