Yes, very. We had to do exactly what they said and if we didn't they would hit us. It had the opposite affect though, as when we grew up we refused to lead the life they had planned for us.

They had rules but they weren't super strict, I would follow the rules to a avoid a lecture....lol

mine have never been strict but i know some of my friends parents are strict and i would hate that
