My great grandfather father is to me.
He came to American at 14 years old from Sicily because his family was dying and starving. They sent him off because he was the most capable. They hoped he’d make enough money to get the rest of them to America.
He slept on the streets of Manhattan NY and fought for money to avoid the mafia which was VERY influential at the time.
He grew up owning 3 buildings in Manhattan an became an engineer. He got 1 family member to America. Once he had enough money. My grandmother.
The rest died from infection, starvation or trying to fight Americans in ww2. As most of my family apparently supported Mussolini. 🤷🏻♂️
