I School Uniform

Seeing kids near the local school, well they just look so scruffy!

Boys - scuffed shoes, shirt tails hanging out, ties short and hanging loose around the neck.

Girls - skirts that look more like wide belts that look like they should be on a street corner.

Am I turning into a grumpy old woman or just jealous I could never get away with that, hmmm....

Having grown up in the 1960's, this sounds just like the sort of thing grownups used to say about my generation.
Isn't it interesting that the older we get the more like our parents we get. I went to school in the sixties and seventies. Grammar school was neat and clean, girls always in dresses below the knee and boys in collard shirts and slacks. Then the flower children stepped in and it was mini skirts puck a poo tops and jeans @Badseed:

@JoanieNewHampshire: I graduated in '69.I was able to understand the schools objection to mini skirts. Yet never could figure why they objected to Maxi (Granny-Dress)that went to the floor.
@Carla1951: I remember all of those stupid regulations. Prudish displays in attempt to control the masses and instill good virtues! Lol. Boys were not allowed to wear shorts. The thing to do then was to come in with your girlfriends skirt and knee socks on over them.

@Carla1951: It's all to do with control. They didn't object to maxi-skirts per se, they objected to students thinking for themselves and choosing to wear long skirts. Put simply, headteachers are control freaks, they'd never get away with their ridiculous demands in any other environment.
