I Witnessed Corporal Punishment At School

It was abolished a few years after I left and I thought it would lead to worse standards of behavior. I feel I was right. At least the good kids could get on with lessons and bullies feared authority then.

I agree. I spent two years teaching in a school in the Caribbean with strict discipline. Strict discipline meant everyone knew what was and was not acceptable. Children could get on with their lessons, academic standards were high and bullying was largely absent.
