I Always Wear My Seatbelt
Except On Game Drives...... I always wear my seat belt, just like wearing my cycle helmet. Basically you cannot trust other people, and you cannot 100% trust cars not to do something stupid.. Finally if you cannot trust other people, you also cannot trust yourself; we are all human.
But, on game drives at max 30kph, in sand, where you want flexibility to move around and spot animals, uh-uh. No seat belt for me when I'm staring face to face with a big tusker! No sir. That freedom helps relax me and notice any signals it might be giving to say 'ok ok you've had your look now bugger off I'm having lunch'. It also seems to help keeping calm in that situation, so I can restart the car and pull away quicker and smoother, causing as little stress as possible to the big guy.
