@polyandrym66 The idea of the tree dates right back to Viking times and probably before. It was adopted by German christians in the 16th century (much as christianity adopted many Pagan customs) and introduced to the UK by Prince Albert.

The Fairy represents the tree spirit.

@LynnUK I wish more christians were like you and respected others' right to not believe in the christian god. I get sick of those christians to try to force their beliefs on to non-believers.

@LynnUK I agree. I have nothing against people believing in whatever gods they wish to, I just object when they try to involve me.

Walking through town yesterday, I was accosted by three different groups of christians trying to force their beliefs on to passers by. They were "right in my face", I almost had to physically push one out of the way to get past.
