So I went to see a neurologist because I keep forgetting things

And I’m having trouble keeping up at work. It was kind of funny because SHE sounded as if she was personally as if she was at the end of her rope. Apparently there’s a shortage of nurses and medical assistants, and she’s feeling overwhelmed. She’s not even dealing with COVID patients. I almost asked her to please sit down and take a breath! After interviewing me, She then says, “You're fine, Youre just stressed out” . Lol. Lol. It was almost comical. I’m like really, you think I’m okay? Why do I NOT feel okay? She says it’s just stress. Then she went on to say I need to see a therapist

So yeah,

Hmmmm

Please see another doctor.

It's true that stress can cause this but way too many things are dismissed as stress alone.

I forget everything when I'm stressed..ive even put the coffee in the freezer and threw cash away in the bin without thinking..stress can cause us to lack concentration

Stress will definitely cause a person to forget things more often, but there's a difference between being forgetful due to stress and having something like dementia. One can involve not remembering where you left you car keys, the other is when you find them in the refrigerator and can't remember how they got there. I'm sure the doc is right, but can't hurt to ask for a follow up in a few weeks if nothing improves.

@SW-User no keys in fridge yet. Thanks.
Just having trouble focusing? Worried a lot about my country. I don’t want war but people are being ignored. From both parties. Sigh. More people dying from CoVid. *woopoie*sarcasm. Of course not being able to do other things

@Mindful I'd be really stressed too if i were you :( I'm sure many others are too where you live. Lets hope things improve a bit this year for you all.

She’s probably right. Stress and burnout will do a number on you. I’d take it seriously, too - the damage is real.

Thank you Quixoticsoul@QuixoticSoul
My daughter is considering seeing a neurologist for this exact same reason!! Only she already has a therapist. I keep telling her she’s fine, irs genetic. I’m dingy as hell, my mom is dingy as hell.... but I do think the neurologist is really a good call. Maybe you should see another one. One who’s not at their own breaking point.

Sometimes these doctors don’t even listen or try to diagnose the problem. They just have a few words like “it’s in your head”, “it’s your anxiety”, “you are just stressed” and they put the ball in your court. It’s a ticket for you to go back to her again.

A while ago I posted a similar post and some know-it-all was like “doctors can do their jobs by just winging it.” Yeah they can and that’s why our healthcare is so wrecked.

@SW-User yes, I lost trust in the diabetic profession for a good three years. Maybe the wrong type of emphasis is being placed on medical community as well. Hmmmm.

@Mindful It's treated like a business where they can make as much money as possible. It's no longer a profession that's was once helpful in healing and recovery.

@SW-User sadly they are admire for their money as much as their skill. But I have hope that most doctors mean well. But they seem more rushed. And maybe it the patients and lawyers at fault.... doctors probably get sued left and right. Not all doctors are incompetent. But their insurance rates go up and cost a fortune to cover losses. I’m sure they are targeted by attorneys.
My mom got like that and they said it was beginning stages of dementia

Thank you! How old was your mom?@ExperienceDLT
@Mindful when she first started forgetting things she was in her 60s she is in early 70s now she still forgets things some and will like misplace things like phone/keys but it hasn't got super severe but the doctor said it progressively can get worse
Mindful · 56-60, F
@ExperienceDLT my doctor thinks I’m too you g for it. But hey she’s doing an MRI .
Hasmita · M

Mindful · 56-60, F
