As another year and another decade come to end
I grew up on a small family farm in southern Ohio in a 150 yo farm house with no indoor plumbing, the bathroom was 100ft out behind the house, my grandmother cooked on a wood stove, had a pot bellied coal stove for heat, we slaughtered our own hogs, beef and chickens. Grew our own vegtibales corn, beans, potatoes, carrots, tomatoes, and a variety of others, And hunted and fished as a large portion of our diet. We ate squirrels, rabbit, quail, grouse, pheasant, wild turkey, deer, possum, coon, frogs, turtles, catfish, bass, trout, pan fish, walleye, pike and a variety of other critters. We spent endless hours doing chores and tending to crops and livestock. We never had much money but I always knew I was loved. I feel extremely lucky and blessed to have been raised in that type of environment by a loving, intelligent, hard working, accepting family. And given a choice I would not take all the money in the world to be raised anywhere else by anyone else. Unfortunately that is a lifestyle that is becoming very rare in this day and age.
