Nobody let us know anything until the day after he, my son Kevin Lee Harris, died 15 days after his 19th birthday. Basically the point was to make sure he was dead, that his life was over, before telling us anything. That is called maintaining standards of privacy, confidentiality, professionalism, and legality.
I am also largely at fault for this as I had not found out the drugs he had been doing beyond mj and alcohol and elavil nor had I intervened much.. Nor had my brother nor dad nor his mother;s side of the family. Kevin played it close to the vest and hid his dui and use of coke, zanax, lean, molly, nic, adderal, percocet and oxycodone.
