I Am Unemployed

I was told today that after 12 years my position is eliminated and I am being laid off from my job. The uncertainty and fear is overwhelming. Any tips on handling a job loss

I've been there. I stayed lost till I found another job. You just feel lost and out of control when you don't leave on your terms, and, for me, that feeling didn't go away till I was back in my own terms. Hope you have lots saved. I used everything I worked my whole life to save. You will be in my thoughts. Hope things look up for you.

Sorry you have not found a job yet! Your story is almost identical to mine. I was gainfully employed at the same company for almost 13 years and then suddenly over 300 of us were terminated. I thought the world was going to end because I really did not see it coming so I was left somewhere between shock and worried. I have had two jobs since then but neither was worth much. The entire dynamics of the companies were very dysfunctional and the jobs were literally making me sick. I am searching for a job again and I am praying that I have paid my dues and I will find a better job again. Losing my job followed by two very horrible jobs was just uncalled for. I can not understand why good workers go down the drain sometimes while others stay afloat. I am a very good worker but I feel so discouraged. It's time though for me to buck up and get in the saddle again and hopefully I can find a job that is more suitable to my well being then the last two. It sucks being just five years from retirement. Employers do not want to necessarily hire me because of my age. Best of luck to you!

I handled my job loss the wrong way by turning to alcohol. One positive thing that did help me was our local state sponsored career center. I would go there not just to look for a job, but, to be around other people who are in a similar situation. I would encourage you to seek out your local career center to see what they may have to offer as well.

Start applying to all the applicable jobs as soon as you have been given the news. Keep your CV up to date, try and sell your CV across .... there's more.

I have been made redundant all too many times......

Well they "think" they can lump it in with someone else's job responsibilities. I streamlined and got the product in such a good place I guess I worked myself out of a job
